Op 20 April 1992 vond één van de grootste Rock gebeurtenissen van de muziekgeschiedenis plaats in het Londense Wembley Stadion. Queen nam afscheid van de aan aids overleden zanger Freddie Mercury en gaf met met tal van bekende gasten een spectaculaire show.
Op het Freddie Mercury Tribute Concert staat het tweede, 105 minuten durende deel van het evenement. De overgebleven bandleden van Queen, Brian May, John Deacon en Roger Taylor werden voor dit concert, waar ze alle hun hits speelden, bijgestaan door muzikanten uit alle muziekhoeken. De optredens van The Who - zanger Roger Daltrey en Black Sabbath - gitarist Tony Iommi ("I Want It All"), Led Zeppelin - legende Robert Plant ("Crazy Little Thing Called Love"), Def Leppard - frontman Joe Elliott en Guns N'Roses - gitarist Slash ("Tie Your Mother down"), Metallica - James Hetfield en Tony Iommi ("Stone Cold Crazy") en Lisa Stansfield ("I Want To Break Free") zijn fantastisch en rocken maar ook de kalmere momenten met o.a. Paul Young ("Radio Ga Ga"), David Bowie en Eurythmics - zangeres Annie Lennox ("Under Pressure"), Elton John ("Bohemian Rhapsody" , "The Show Must Go On") en George Michael (" '39" , " These Are The Days Of Our Life" , "Somebody To Love") zijn bijzonder overtuigend. Het meest ontroerende moment is als Brian May zijn solo doet tijdens het afscheidslied "Too Much Love Will Kill You''.
